Clear Creek students to help grow some veggies for school lunches
By PEGGY SENZARINO for the Globe Gazette
Students at Clear Creek Elementary School in Clear Lake soon will be helping to grow some of the food for their school lunches.
The Clear Lake School Board approved a plan Monday night for a school vegetable garden in the courtyard at Clear Creek.
“There will be raised beds so that the children can get their hands in the dirt and do some gardening,” said food service director Lora Jenson.
The program will be paid for with grant funds.
“I think it is just a terrific idea,” said School Board President Tom Lovell.
He said that for some children, this may be their first opportunity to do some gardening.
He added that children will also learn the connection between the garden and the table.
